Results Wrap: QAS supported surfers “stoked” in Portugal

09 October 2024

It was a ripping weekend for two QAS supported surfers competing in the WSL’s Challenger Series in Portugal with both athletes celebrating their success.

World Surf League Challenger Series Round 5, Ericeira, Portugal:

QAS supported surfer Callum Robson has roared back from injury to finish runner-up in Round 5 of the WSL’s Challenger Series in Portugal. The 23-year-old put on a powerful performance from the start of the competition scoring 15.60 in his Round of 32 heat. Robson surged through the rounds, scoring an 8.33 in his Semi Final to make the Final against Brazil’s Samuel Pupo. Despite a strong performance, Robson lucked out with wave selection in the Final to finish second. The round marks Robson’s best result on the Challenger Series this year, gaining 27 positions on the rankings ladder. The QAS supported surfer is now 11thin the series with a total of 13,100 points. After the round, Robson said he was “stoked” with his result. "Missing out on the last event and coming here to compete meant a lot to me," said Robson. "If you told me at the start of the week I will be in second, I wouldn't believe you, but I'm really stoked with the runner-up and heading into Brazil in a better position."

Fellow QAS supported surfer, Isabella Nichols, will surf against the world’s best women in 2025 after qualifying for the WSL’s Championship Tour. The 27-year-old secured her spot following a dominant year in the Challenger series, currently ranked third with 25,575 points. While only making it as far as the Quarter Finals at Round 5 in Portugal, the QAS surfer says finding out she had qualified for 2025 was “the best news possible!”
