Results Wrap: More bags packed for Paris, plus a major golf debut

Our QAS-supported athletes and graduates are busy packing their bags for Paris following more selections for the Olympic and Paralympic games. Plus, one of our golfers celebrates a major breakthrough!

Olympic & Paralympic selections:

Athletics

12 QAS-supported athletes have been selected in the final round of Athletics Olympic team selections. They include:

Kelsey-Lee Barber – Javelin

Ashley Moloney – Decathlon

Daniel Golubovic – Decathlon

Bree Masters – 100m, 4x100m Relay

Torrie Lewis – 200m, 4x100m Relay

Kristie Edwards – 4x100m Relay

Calab Law – 200m, 4x100m Relay

Lachlan Kennedy – 4x100m Relay

Peyton Craig – 800m

Reece Holder – 400m

Liz Clay – 100m Hurdles

Cara Feain-Ryan – 3km Steeplechase

A further four Queenslanders have also qualified for the team including Ellie Beer, Taryn Gollshewsky, Camryn Newton-Smith and Tori West in the latest selection round.

This is in addition to three QAS-supported athletes already selected for the Athletics team including Matt Denny, Michelle Jenneke and Genevieve Gregson, and fellow Queenslander Patrick Tiernan.

BMX Freestyle

QAS-supported BMX Freestyler Logan Martin will have the chance to defend his Olympic gold medal at the Paris games after being selected for the Australian team. The 2023 world championship silver medallist says he will celebrate making it to another Olympics after he competes in Paris.

“Massive thank you to my amazing wife, my mum and parents in law for holding down the fort while I’ve had to travel and compete to qualify for Paris 2024! Thanks to my beautiful children, Noah and Luna for keeping me grounded. And all the AusCycling staff and QAS staff for the support to keep everything moving at the training facility and whilst travelling and to all the people that support me and cheer for me, thank you!”

Joining him will be Tokyo Olympic top-5 finisher Natalya Diehm. The 26-year-old finished sixth overall in Olympic qualifier series and says she’s looking forward to having her mum in the crowd in Paris. Good luck team!

BMX Racing

23-year-old Izaac Kennedy will make his Olympic debut in Paris when he competes in BMX Racing. Currently on a QAS Medal Support Plan, Izaac is the current BMX Racing World Cup Champion. The BMX Races will take place on August 1st and 2nd.

Park Skateboarding

X-Games gold medallist and reigning Olympic champion Keegan Palmer will join Kieran Woolley in competing at their second Olympic Games in Paris following Australia’s team announcement. The QAS-supported Park Skateboarders will be joined by fellow X-Games gold medallist and QAS-supported athlete Arisa Trew, who will make her Olympic debut. The 14-year-old qualified first in the Olympic Qualifying Series events in Shanghai and Budapest.

Street Skateboarding

QAS-supported street skateboarders Chloe Covell and Haylie Powell will be making their Olympic debuts in Paris after qualifying through the cut-throat Olympic Qualifying Series. Covell goes into the Games in a strong position after winning a silver medal in the 2023 World Championships.

Our QAS-supported athletes make up five of the nine-strong Australian Skateboarding team selected for the Paris Olympic Games.

Rugby 7s

Six QAS graduates are set to play for Australia’s Rugby 7s team at the Paris Olympics after gaining selection. Captain Charlotte Caslick, Dominique Du Toit, Maddi Levi, Teagan Levi, Isabella Naser, and Kaitlin Shave have been named for the Olympic team. Travelling as team reserves is QAS graduate Sidney Taylor and QAS-supported athlete Kahli Henwood. The team enters the Paris Olympics as the reigning World Series champions following their win against France last month.

QAS graduate Charlotte Caslick will be one of Australia’s first triple Olympians in Rugby. She says the team has worked really hard to get to a point where they are chasing a gold medal.

Australia’s women’s Rugby 7s team will take on Ireland, Great Britain and South Africa at the Olympics.

Wheelchair Basketball

QAS-supported basketballer Eithen Leard will make his Paralympic debut alongside fellow QAS-supported athletes Bill Latham and Sammy White selected to compete in Paris with the Australian Rollers Wheelchair Basketball team. The Rollers most recent Paralympic medal was silver at the London 2012 Games. Good luck team!

Para Archery

QAS-supported Para Archer Melissa Tanner will make her Paralympic debut in Paris as part of Australia’s largest Para Archery team in 40 years. She’ll be joined by Para-canoe silver medallist Amanda Jennings who switched sports after the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Reigning W1 men’s World Champion, QAS-supported athlete Christopher Davis was forced to withdraw from the team due to injury. He recently underwent shoulder surgery. We’re wishing him a speedy recovery!

Golf, Royal Cinque Ports, UK

Elvis Smylie has locked in his first major championship, set to debut at the British Open at Royal Troon after finishing equal second at Royal Cinque Ports in the UK. The 22-year-old says qualifying for The Open gave him goosebumps.
