Results Wrap: QAS-supported athletes on the podium ahead of Olympic selections

QAS-supported athletes have come home with extra luggage following successful championships in Adelaide, Fiji, and Canada.

Australian Diving Championships, Adelaide:

QAS-supported diver Cassiel Rousseau blitzed his competition in the Men’s 10-Metre Platform, taking home first place. The win all but seals the former gymnast’s selection for the Paris Olympics.

In the fiercely competitive Women’s 10-Metre Platform, 27-year-old Emily Meaney secured third place ahead of Emily Boyd in fourth.

Maddison Keeney has extended her Olympic campaign after being crowned National Champion in the Women’s 3-Metre Springboard. Keeney has already gained selection for the Paris Olympics in the Women’s 3-Metre Synchronised event. Finishing in a very close second was QAS-supported Alysha Koloi, separated by only 0.55 points to Keeney after the final dive.

Oceania Athletics Championships, Suva, Fiji:

Liz Clay’s season continues to go from strength to strength, winning the 100-Metres hurdles in 12.99. The result improves Clay’s chances of qualifying for the Olympics with the 29-year-old sitting just inside the quota.

Teenage sprinter Calab Law has another win to his name, claiming gold in the Men’s 200-Metres in 20.74. The win boosts Law’s chances of competing at the Paris Olympics.

Australia’s fastest woman, Torrie Lewis, took home the win in the Women’s 200-Metres in 23.14. The 19-year-old is comfortably inside the Olympic qualifying quota.

In javelin Nash Lowis took home the win with a last round throw of 79.67 metres. The result will significantly improve his world ranking towards Olympic qualification.

In Decathlon, QAS-supported athletes were at the top of podium with Ash Moloney winning with a total of 8182 points. Dan Golubovic placed second with 8002 points. In addition to their scores, the pair will receive bonus ranking points for finishing first and second. It sees both athletes currently ranked in the top 24 in the world to qualify for the Olympics.

The period for Olympic qualification closes on the 30th of June.

Wheelchair Rugby Canada Cup, British Columbia, Canada:

Australian wheelchair rugby team, the Steelers, have finished on the podium at the International Wheelchair Rugby Canada Cup. The team claimed silver against Japan in their last international competition before the Paris Paralympics, scoring 46-54. QAS-supported athletes Ryley Batt, Chris Bond, Ella Sabljak, Brayden Foxley-Connelly, Josh Nicholson and Beau Vernon were part of the Canada Cup campaign.
