New partnership helps athletes get financially fit

31 May 2024

QAS-supported athletes will be able to breeze through their tax returns in a new partnership with digital accounting service Hnry.

Hnry will free up valuable time for QAS-supported athletes during the end of financial year period, which is an especially busy time for athletes preparing for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The service will automatically calculate and pay athletes’ income tax, GST, Medicare levy, and student loan repayments with every payment they receive.

Queensland Academy of Sport’s Director of Performance Partnerships, Jessica Walker, says Hnry will particularly benefit athletes who receive irregular payments through complex income streams, including various sponsorship arrangements, part-time and casual jobs.

"As an organisation dedicated to the holistic development of athletes we recognise the importance of financial literacy to ensure the long-term success for our athletes."

"Partnering with Hnry allows us to provide our athletes with access to valuable resources and expertise that will empower them to make informed financial decisions and secure their futures."

The partnership will also see Hnry provide financial education sessions and webinars for athletes, as well as a tailored expenses guide to suit specific tax and financial needs of elite athletes.

Karan Anand, Hnry's Managing Director of Australia, says they are thrilled to partner with the Queensland Academy of Sport to help athletes spend less time stressing about tax and more time training.

"At Hnry, we understand the unique challenges athletes face in managing their taxes and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way."

"We are thrilled to be able to empower QAS-supported athletes with the knowledge and tools they need to achieve financial stability and success," said Karan Anand.
