QAS Celebrates Queensland Athletes Sporting Success at Inaugural Minister’s Athlete Breakfast

01 January 2021

In a milestone event at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), we held our inaugural Minister’s Athlete Breakfast today, truly bringing our vision of 'inspiring extraordinary sporting success' to life. The gathering was a celebration of fortitude, tenacity, and sporting prowess, highlighting the remarkable international success of Queensland’s athletes.

We were honoured to be joined by some of Australia's best, including world swimming champion Cameron McEvoy, Street Skateboarding X Games and world silver medallist Chloe Covell, three-time Paralympic gold medallist Curtis McGrath, and Gabriella Palm from the Aussie Stingers water polo squad. Their compelling tales of goal setting, grit, innovation, and teamwork not only inspire our sporting community but also resonate with those pursuing success in business or personal endeavours.

Natalie Cook OAM OLY, our gifted MC for the day, skilfully guided us through the event, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and jubilant celebration. The attendees enthusiastically celebrated the international successes of Queensland's athletes in 2023 and eagerly looked forward to the upcoming Paris 2024 games.

QAS Chief Executive, Chelsea Warr, shared her thoughts on the success of the event, "The inaugural Minister's Athlete Breakfast has been an unequivocal success. It was an honour to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Queensland's athletes and to share in their journey towards Paris 2024. Today's event also marked the launch of our 'Dream Twice' initiative, with the Athlete Journey at the heart of the QAS 2032 High Performance Strategy, we recognise our responsibility to support all athletes as both people and performers.

“QAS Dream Twice, in partnership with Queensland businesses, is designed to support athletes dream about what they could achieve in their careers, as well as in sport. It’s about supporting their sporting goals while knowing there is a professional future beyond the field of play.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who joined us in marking this day a success. As we turn our gaze towards the Paris 2024 games, we send our best wishes to all QAS supported athletes in their relentless pursuit of excellence.
